I still remember the first time my mom made these kefir crepes for me—soft, airy, and with a subtle tang that made them irresistible. Since then, they’ve been a staple in my kitchen, and now, I love making them for my kids. It’s a foolproof recipe that never fails, and whether you enjoy them sweet or savoury, these easy kefir crepes will become a favourite in your home too!
Why You’ll Love These Kefir Crepes
- Foolproof & Easy – Perfect results every time, even for beginners.
- Healthier with Kefir – Adds gut-friendly probiotics and a slight tang for extra flavour.
- Versatile & Customisable – Enjoy them plain, sweet, or savoury.
- Fun Natural Colour Variations – Add spinach, beetroot, turmeric, or cocoa for colourful crepes.
- Kid-Approved – A nutritious and delicious breakfast or snack option.
How to Make The Best Crepe Recipe
Prepare the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, kefir, oil, and baking soda until smooth. Slowly add the flour, stirring continuously to prevent lumps. A whisk works well, but for an ultra-smooth batter, you can also blend it.
Heat the Pan: Preheat a non-stick pan over high heat, then reduce it to medium-low. Lightly grease with a small amount of oil (use a brush or paper towel to spread it evenly).
Cook the Crepes: Using a ladle or measuring cup, pour a small amount of batter into the pan. Tilt the pan in a circular motion to spread the batter evenly into a thin layer. Cook for about 30 seconds per side, flipping carefully when the edges start to lift. Repeat until all the batter is used.
Serve & Enjoy! – Stack your warm crepes on a plate and serve them with your favourite toppings!
Why Use Kefir in Crepes?
These kefir crepes have a slight tang, making them extra delicious. Kefir’s natural probiotics also make them easier to digest, and its acidity helps create a softer, more delicate texture. If you haven’t tried using kefir in crepes before, you’re in for a treat!
Creative Variations: Naturally Coloured Crepes
Want to make fun, colorful crepes without artificial food dyes? Try these natural ingredients:
- Green Crepes – Blend fresh spinach and mix it into the batter.
- Red Crepes – Add a splash of beetroot juice for a pink-red hue.
- Yellow Crepes – Stir in 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder for a golden glow.
- Brown Crepes – Add 1 tbsp of cocoa powder for a subtle chocolate flavour.
These variations make breakfast extra fun for kids while adding extra nutrition!
Kid-Friendly Kefir Crepe Topping Idea
One of my favourite ways to serve these kefir crepes to kids is:
Butter + Raspberry Chia Jam + Myzithra Cheese – A sugar-free, nutritious combination packed with healthy fats, fibre, and protein.
Other delicious topping ideas:
- Greek yogurt + honey + fresh berries
- Nut butter + banana slices
- Avocado + feta + olive oil (savoury option)
Final Tips for Perfect Kefir Crepes
- Use kefir for extra softness – The acidity creates a tender texture.
- Whisk well – Gradually add flour to prevent lumps.
- Use a non-stick pan – This ensures the crepes don’t stick.
- Control the heat – If the crepes cook too fast or get crispy, lower the heat.
- Make ahead & store – Refrigerate for up to 3 days or freeze for later.
